The Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. (ADM) grain facility in Mendota, Illinois, U.S.Shares of Archer-Daniels-Midland plunged 24% on Monday, its biggest one-day drop since 1929, after CFO Vikram Luthar was placed on administrative leave as the company investigates accounting practices at its Nutrition segment. The probe brings more uncertainty to ADM's high-margin Nutrition segment, which is under pressure due to weak demand for meat alternatives and other products as well as downtime at a large soy processing facility. The Nutrition segment, however, has not performed well in recent quarters. "First and foremost, understanding the true scope of potential accounting irregularities and their impact on Nutrition segment revenues/margins will be critical," said Goldman Sachs analyst Adam Samuelson. ADM appointed Ismael Roig, who has been with the company since 2004, as its interim CFO.

The practice of citizen-originated ballot measures began 125 years ago when South Dakota became the first in the nation to enact a statewide initiative and referendum process. But some still invoke his name in their fight to preserve voters’ ballot measure rights. “It represents for me the fundamental idea of the equal dignity of every human being,” said Heidelberger, who blogs about South Dakota politics. The political conditions were brief but just right in 1897 for lawmakers to approve it; voters passed it the following year. In a memoir compiled by the state Socialist Party, Haire is credited with writing the amendment itself.

This is especially true if you’re comparing a high-income economy like the United States with a middle-income nation like China or, even more so, with a low-income country like India. In such a world, countries would have to be competitive in the production of traded goods, so their wage rates in dollars would reflect their productivity in tradable goods (like the airplanes), not nontradable goods (like the haircuts). Such countries have high wages, but these wages are reflected in higher prices for nontradables and hence in an overall higher price level than in poorer countries. I won’t try to do a rigorous or comprehensive test, just provide an illustrative figure with a few important economies. Here’s the price level in several countries, as measured by the ratio of dollar G.D.P.

REUTERS/ Giulio PiovaccariSTOCKHOLM, July 20 (Reuters) - Electrolux (ELUXb.ST), Europe's biggest home appliances maker, swung to a loss in the second quarter as cash-strapped shoppers opted for cheaper products and demand from residential property builders slowed. The Swedish group said organic sales fell 8% as sales volumes shrank significantly due to continued weak demand. "Lower residential construction and remodeling activity caused significantly weaker demand within the built-in kitchen category, mainly impacting us in Europe," he said. It reported a second-quarter operating loss of 124 million crowns ($12.1 million) against a year-earlier profit of 560 million.

“If this is what economics is teaching, who wants to be part of that?”Myers is an interesting person. Myers told me about the economists, both Black and white, who lent a hand to him and others early on. One was his father, Samuel L. Myers, a path breaker who earned a doctorate in economics from Harvard in 1949. “I’m happy and content that I’m unapologetically Black,” he said. He added: “The summer program is producing deep thinkers.”

As an immigrant from Vietnam, my mom doesn't have a credit score and has no intention of getting one. When I wanted to build credit, I looked toward community-oriented resources like public libraries and local churches. Owning land was considered a major asset, and homes built on that land served as collateral on borrowed money. My parents came from large families who supported themselves through agrarian means, so they rarely had any need for borrowed money. We have a greater understanding of how credit scores are calculated and more resources geared toward people who have been previously excluded from credit building.
Analyst Adam Samuelson downgraded the food producer to neutral from buy after Tyson's latest quarterly report showed significant underperformance across the company — particularly its chicken segment. The company's reported earnings per share of 85 cents for its first fiscal quarter. "Put together, we see a more uncertain trajectory for Chicken segment profitability into FY24 and have less confidence in the business returning to previously articulated 6-8% normalized margins," the analyst added. Tyson shares fell 4.6% on Monday after the company announced its quarterly earnings. TSN 1Y mountain TSN in past 12 months —CNBC's Michael Bloom contributed to this report.

"Market demand in both Europe and North America for the full-year of 2023 is expected to further deteriorate, i.e. Electrolux (ELUXb.ST) in September warned profit would drop as high inflation and low consumer confidence squeezed demand and large investments in North America had yet to pay off. Samuelson told analysts and media in a call that the group had massive inefficiencies in supply chain and production in North America in the quarter. Samuelson said most of the charge related to trimming staff at Electrolux, which had 52,000 employees at the end of 2021. The North America division reported a loss of 1.2 billion crowns.
